Use and description
Gallic acid, also known as gallic acid or gallic acid, is an organic acid found in gall, witch hazel, sumac, oak bark, and tea.

Gallic acid is easily soluble in water, alcohol and ether; it has the properties of phenol (easy to be oxidized and ferric chloride aqueous solution to produce blue-black precipitate) and carboxylic acid (to lose carbon dioxide to form pyrogallic acid when heated).

Gallic acid can be used as a contrast agent, and its basic bismuth salt is used as a preservative, commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is the raw material for the manufacture of the hallucinogen Mescaline.
